Parlor Car Chats
Saturday, May 16, 2020

The San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum (SLORRM) has announced a new program of online gatherings to tide us over until we can meet again in living color.

You've heard of fireside chats... Well, here's the SLO Railroad Museum's version of that in order to do some virtual gatherings during this COVID situation, and depending on how well it goes, possibly continue on into the future.

These are live sessions.

First up is a travelogue of sorts by Jamie Foster of the train trip from San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara, scheduled for Saturday, May 16th at 10am PDT.

On an as-scheduled basis, we'll have someone present a session on a particular railroad topic that he/she is passionate about and wants to share. Details for connecting to the online meeting will be shown for each session (may vary). Participants can call in over a phone or join via a computer. Either way, depending on your equipment, you'll be able to see and/or hear what the presenter is showing, and see and/or hear active participants. Most sessions will include Q&A along the way or at the end. Each session is planned to be 30-60 minutes, but this will vary and you may come and go from the meeting as you wish.

Train Tales

SLORRM has also started a program of posting video interviews with railroadmen sharing their stories from the past for posterity. Among these first interviewees are Bill Berry, Virlon Smoot, Tom Kroon, Louis Verdugo, Bob McIntire, Vince Cipolla, Sid Marcus, Ray Craig, Clyde Elliot, and Bill Walthers. Please visit the SLORRM's Train Tales page.

Modeling Clinics

The Museum is considering doing these clinics virtually during the COVID-19 situation. Please watch here for details.

CoastRail 2020

A new CCRRF event at SLO Railroad Museum! CoastRail will be an opportunity for photographers and videographers to share their work related to railroading. This year's first effort will include four hours of presentations with a pizza party break in the middle. The 2020 theme is Vintage Trains. Friday, October 2, 2020, 4pm-9pm. Tickets are very limited. Details.

Art After Dark

Art After Dark is currently scheduled for August 7, 2020 at the SLO Railroad Museum (see last year's). It's a fun evening to see works of invited artists, enjoy some refreshments, and enjoy each other. And admission is free. Of course, this assumes we're "back to normal" from the COVID-19 stuff.

Area Railroading Opportunities

There's a plethora of railroading going on in our area (broadly speaking, in some cases). Check out this Index of Area Railroading. Be sure to check with any of interest to you to verify their COVID-19 status.
