Pacific Coast Railroad YouTube Video

Check out this 12-minute video about the Pacific Coast Railroad Company (PCRR) narrated by Jeff Badger, "Chief Everything Officer" at the railroad. This video is brand new having just been posted on August 20th. It contains info about the history of the Santa Margarita Ranch, all the various equipment on the railroad, plus a bit about the recent Best of the West Antique Show held at the Ranch. The Pacific Coast Railroad will be open to the public as part of the Railroad Festival on Saturday, October 8, 2022; details here. The video is here.

EPIC Displays at SLO Railroad Museum

One of the special displays at the Museum on the Saturday of the Festival will be from Glen Matteson's summer program at Cal Poly entitled "Engineering Possibilities in College (EPIC)". This display will highlight the Museum's connection with Cal Poly as well as let you see student output from Glenn's class topic this year: Light Rail Transit Route Design Lab.

SLO RR Museum Adds Collection Info

The SLO Railroad Museum recently posted four new information webpages about items in their collection: PCRy #706 Boxcar, an SP Velocipede, an SP Hand Car, and their Wig Wag Crossing Signal.

Bullet Train, the Movie

SLO New Times recently ran a report on a 2022, comedy/action, Brad Pitt movie called Bullet Train about a group of assassins aboard a speeding train whose various missions are interconnected. Most of the movie takes place inside the train with occasional exterior shots at speed and at stations. Rated R (language and violence). Rotten Tomatoes says 54% critics and 76% audience. The train is the well-known Bullet Train of Japan but much of the movie was shot on green-screen with miniatures and CGI backgrounds. The full report is here

Amazing Tech in Railroading

Union Pacific Railroad recently posted an article on their website entitled, "Railroad Tech: Rail Safety, Security and Visibility Innovations." It talks about some rather fascinating technologies employed on railroads to enhance safety and efficiency. For example, there are track-side sensors that can detect wheel defects like flat spots and worn bearings as the train zooms by. The ultrasonic wheel sensors can detect internal defects, too! See the entire article here
