2023 CCRRF Participants - So Far

This year's Central Coast Railroad Festival (CCRRF) is scheduled for October 6-8, 2023. If you'd like to be on this list of Participants, confirm your participation by contacting: Conductor@CCRRF.com.

Point San Luis Lighthouse

Joining the list of presentations at the SLO Railroad Museum on Festival Saturday will be "The Lighthouse at Point San Luis" by Kathy Mastako. Her new book by the same title chronicles the colorful history of the iconic landmark. She'll share some of the short, but true, stories...

Ted Waterhouse at the Museum

Ted Waterhouse will provide the music on the SLO Railroad Museum's platform on Saturday during the Festival, 11am-12pm and 1-2pm. Ted Waterhouse (aka Catalina Eddy) is well-known as one of the premiere guitarists, vocalists, and songwriters on California's Central Coast. Look for plenty of railroad songs in his repertoire for the day. Click here for his upcoming schedule.

Garden Railroad Society June Luncheon

Guests are welcome to come and find out more about the Central California Coast Garden Railroad Society at their June 7th luncheon, 11:30am to 1:30pm at Bon Temps Creole Cafe, 1819 Osos Street, SLO. For more info, email: contact@cccgrs.org. And don't forget their July 10-11 post-convention tour of G-scale layouts in our area; details here.

Best of the West, Including Train Rides

The Best of the West Antique Equipment Show is this weekend, May 25-28, at the Santa Margarita Ranch. Click here for a detailed schedule of events. The Pacific Coast Railroad Company is providing the train rides!

Paso Robles Pioneer Museum

The Paso Robles Pioneer Museum joins the Railroad Festival once again. They're open Thursday-Sunday, 1-4pm (generally, as well as during the Festival). There are some railroad connections, like rail carts from Klau Mine that carried cinnabar, the ore from which mercury (quicksilver) was extracted. The mine processed the ore from 1868 to 1970. And don't forget, Paso Robles Pioneer Day is just one weekend following the Railroad Festival on October 14, 2023. The event remains conducted much as it was 93 years ago when it first began. Most businesses closed so that their employees could enjoy and participate in the activities and family reunions. There were to be no charges for any of the events, no commercial concessions, and lunch would be provided at no cost. And today, like in yesteryear, the whole day is free.

Dana Adobe and Cultural Center

The Dana Adobe and Cultural Center will also be re-joining the Railroad Festival for 2023. Among their many interesting exhibits and the fascinating adobe home to explore, they have several hiking trails including one that follows a short section of the Pacific Coast Railway right-of-way that happens to cross their property. Dana Adobe is open daily from 11am to 3pm, Adobe tours are by appointment or on weekends from 11am to 3pm. Coming up on July 8th (gates open at 4pm, 5:30pm concert) is a Dave Stamey Concert and BBQ Dinner. Click here for tickets.

Jack House and Dallidet Adobe

The SLO History Center's Jack House and Dallidet Adobe will be participating in this year's Railroad Festival. The 1878 Jack House, built by rancher and capitalist R. E. Jack, was instrumental in bringing the Southern Pacific Railroad to San Luis Obispo. The Jack family occupied this Victorian home for over 90 years. At a different location, the Dallidet Adobe and Gardens are open on Saturdays and Sundays from April through October. In addition to the beautiful gardens and adobe home, on display is a horse-drawn street car which ran on rails through SLO's downtown from 1867 to 1901.

"From the Freighthouse"
SLO Railroad Museum

"From the Freighthouse" is a free, periodic publication of the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. Like these Railroad Festival announcement emails, "From the Freighthouse" is an email blast that occurs about once a month with quick updates on activities at the Museum including new exhibits, activities, movies, special presentations, new items in the gift shop, and the like. Previous issues of the publication can be accessed from the right-hand column on the Smileposts page. To subscribe (it's free to anyone), go here.

Want Your News/Event Promoted?

Do you have a Central Coast railroad-related event or news item to add to our next broadcast email? It's free! And it doesn't have to be part of the Festival itself (could be any time throughout the year). Email the details to: addevent@ccrrf.com. The next issue will likely be in a month or so.
